The Ohio State Meteorology Club was founded in 1996,
when a
group of undergraduate meteorology students decided to
start a student
organization which would serve not only as a
networking tool, but as a social
group to get to know fellow students interested in
weather.
Each year the club hosts several professional and
social events, in
addition to its frequent meetings. Our meetings
include speakers from and
visits to local TV stations and National Weather
Service offices. We provide
the opportunity for students to learn more about the
meteorological field as
a whole through our Annual Severe Weather Symposium.
It also provides
the opportunity to network with professional
meteorologists. Our past social
events include bowling, miniature golf, Magic
Mountain, and pizza/video
game nights.
In the fall of 2009, the Meteorology Club drafted a
proposal to
the Department of Geography seeking funding to update
and replace the
campus weather instruments and data logger equipment.
In the fall of 2010,
the Microclimatological Measurements class, under the
guidance of Jim
Degrand, installed the system of solar-powered
instruments, and routed all
the data it collected through the internet to be
viewed by anyone at any time.
The data, refreshed every minute, can be found here on
the Meteorology Club
website.
The Meteorology Club is very proud of all their
accomplishments
and hopes to continue to offer exceptional
opportunities to its members and
everyone involved.
